Have you done your homework?

Daily Math Assignments:

Mathematical resources available to students and their families.  I also attached any typed resources that I have passed out to students.

*LOOK HERE!  November's Monthly packet went home in Block 1 and is due Nov. 25th(must complete 6/8 problems!!!!  Block 2 will get theirs on Friday, Nov. 6th and will be due Nov. 25th (must do at least 4 out of the 8 problems).

fRIDAY NOV. 6TH:  MATH QUIZ FOR BLOCK 2.  NO HOMEWORK FOR BLOCK 1 AND 2.

Wednesday, Nov. 4th: Block 1-problems 8-16. Each student will rewrite each decimal as a fraction to get to a fractional answer.  We are seeing the relationship between decimals and fractions and their values.  Due tomorrow.

Block 2- page 60 problem 27 a, b, c.  We are practicing our division algorithms.  Students should be picking the one that they want to master. Due tomorrow.

Tuesday, Nov. 3rd-

Block 1: HW-Pgs. 13-19  problems 19-21   We are practicing working with decimals.

Block 2:  We are finishing up dividing with fractions.  We are learning the cross multiplication method and the reciprocal method.  Hw-pg. 58 problems 15-20.

Wednesday, Oct. 28th, 2009

Block 1-working on Division using the cross multiply method or the reciprocal method. Hw: Division practice sheet due Monday.

Block 2-Working on multiplication by changing mixed numbers into impropers and multiplying straight across. HW: NO homework.

Reading

Oct. 28th- Worked on creating a 3 answer using our Questioning answer checklist.  Read for 30 min.

Oct. 26-Took a formative assessment on questioning.  Read the book "Where the Wild Things Are" and had to ask 2 on the line, 2 between the line, and 2 beyond the line questions with regards to the book. 

We have started working on answering our deep thinking questions.  Students are working on the next step of asking and answering questions that cause them to analyze the book.

We are currently working on asking questions that help with our comprehension.  Questions need to be "root" questions, those are questions that are deep thinking. 

10/14 Used National Geographic for Kids-read the article "Fooled You" and worked on answering the question "How do insects protect themselves from predators?"  Students are working on giving example and using specific details and vocabulary. 

Connections assessment will be on Friday!!

Daily Writing Activities: 

 

  10/14 We are still working on the memoir.  Today we looked at word choice and how it makes a difference in your paper.  Students are done with their first rough draft and are currently working on revising and editing that draft. 

We are working on memoirs and the difference between an effective and non-effective memoir.  This is an in class assignment, but please ask to see what your child is writingsmile

**Memoirs will be due on November 20th!!!**

The past gives us clues to our future

Social Studies Activities:

Thursday Oct. 29th- NOV. 5TH  Made a Venn diagram comparing Ancient Egypt and Current Egypt and then connected the facts to the 5 themes.  Will finish this up on Thursday Nov. 5th.  We will add some vocabulary and foldables to this weeks activities.  VOCABULARY SENT HOME AND IS DUE BY NEXT THURSDAY!!!!!

Thursday Oct. 22 and Friday Oct. 23
We are finishing up geography this week.  Students took a final assessment on their knowledge of geopgraphy and its five themes.  Students created thier own country, gave their country a name, and used the 5 themes of geography to give their country a description.  Students also had to write a summary about their country.  Students had all day Thursday to work and 2 hours on Friday.  What they don't get done is homework and will need to be turned in first thing on Monday!!!!  Students have a rubric and directions to help them with this.

Thursday, Oct. 15th- We worked on the 5 themes and talked about Spain.

No homework.

Thursday, Oct. 8th-Worked on 5 themes and talked about Libya and the 5 themes. No homework!

Thursday, Oct. 1st-Worked on Geography, took a quiz, and worked on understanding the 5 themes of Geography. No Homework.

Thursday, Sept. 24th-We took notes on the 5 themes of Geography: Location, Place, Human Environment interaction, movement, and regions. Notetaking is hard and they did a fantastic job!!

We are currently working on geographical aspects of the world.  We are reviewing longitude, latitude, equator,prime meridian, and the continents.  We will be kicking it up notch by having the students take what they already know about these important points and relating their affects on certain ancient civilizations and thier climate and culture.

We are putting all our work inside our composition notebook, so please feel free to ask them to see what they are learning.

Friday, Nov. 6th: HW Packet was sent home for Forces Chapter 2 in the Science Book. 

Friday, Oct. 30  Science projects were turned in for Block 1.  Block 2 is finishing them up.  NO homework if project is finished.

Tuesday, Oct. 20- Trying to finish up our Science Project!!  Due Friday for Block 1

Block 2- No Homework!

Monday, Oct. 19th-Worked on Science project and calculated the average speed of our skateboards at various degrees. No Homework.

 

Friday, Oct. 16th-Inclined to Roll!  Question:  Does the angle of an incline affect the time it takes a skateboard to roll down a ramp?

We will continue this experiment on Monday, Oct. 16th.

Wednesday, Oct. 7th:  Block 1-Science sheet on Describing motion-Due Friday.  Final Science project due Friday.

Block 2-Worked on making graphs of our data.  Students are to make a graph for both objects and put them on their sheet of construction paper that is titled, "How fast and how far?" along with their data collection sheet.  This is due friday.

Monday, Oct. 5th: worked on Science project, checked task 1 and 2.  Discussed what is due Wednesday -data collection (time and distance) for three items (two items for block 2).  Students need to collect data on a table showing the time and distance. DUE Wednesday.  *Students will bring table or chart to class Wednesday to show Mrs. Samson.

FRIDAY, OCT. 2ND- CHAPTER PROJECT SENT HOME, DUE FRIDAY,OCT. 9TH!!!  Finished working on discovery activity to find the relationship between speed, distance, and time.

Tuesday, Sept. 29th.  Homework: vocabulary from Chapter 1. Due Tomorrow

We made a scientific process experiment book!  We will be starting our first experiment on Monday! Yippee!!

We are learning about Motion!  Check out your child's science notebook to see the fun and exciting work that we are doing. 

NO homework as of right now, we are doing everything in class.
