Unified Arts (7th grade shop)

We will start the class with the candle holder project. The base is made from Mahogany, the sides from Peruvian Black Walnut, and the front insert from 1/4 inch Birch Plywood.  A candle is also provided.

8th grade Technology

(8th grade Shop)

The class will divide into 3 groups.  One group will make signs using a router, one group will make toy cars and the third group will make laminate boxes.  We will rotate through the projects so that every group will be able to make cars, signs and boxes.

After the shop projects, we will be using the Paxton/Patterson Action Lab.

Manufacturing (9th grade shop)

Our first project will be to make Adirondack Chairs.

Our class made 25 these.  They will be worked as an assembly line, with each student given specific duties.  The students can reimberse the shop for a cost of $25 (the cost of the materials) and they can take one chair home.  The remaining chairs will be donated to Elementary Schools that feed our Junior High, and to Fairview, to place in the courtyard.

The next project is Bubba's Tower.  The students will construct a 10" by 2" by 2" tower out of 1/4" by 1/4" balsa wood.  The tower will consist of 96" of balsa wood.  The Tower needs to support at least 100 lbs, and when it does fail, it needs to eject Bubba (a ping pong ball) away from the crashing tower.

After Bubba's Tower, the students will be creating their own t-shirts using screen printing.  In this project we will be working with Mr. Emans at Olympic High School

Our next project will be CO2 Race Cars.  We will compete in the class to see who has the fastest car.  We might even get to race against Ridgetop and Central Kitsap Junior High.
